Reopening Of UNTH Heart Surgery Unit Approved By FEC

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the reopening of the heart surgery unit in the University of Nigeria Nsukka Teaching Hospital Enugu (UNTH).

This was disclosed by The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku to state house correspondents after the council meeting. He said that Nigerians no longer have to go to India and other parts of world in search of surgery. He said the heart surgery in Enugu will cost only N500, 000.

The reopening of the heart surgery unit by FEC is following recent initiatives by the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu as well as support from Nigerians in diaspora.

The open heart surgery unit at the UNN was suspended ten years ago, following its movement from an old site within the Enugu metropolis to its permanent site at Ituku-Ozala.
