Gov Sullivan Chime:I’m alive, will be back

Enugu state Governor Sullivan Chime for the first time for about 135 days ago since he left the country, opened up on his health condition yesterday, saying that he is in good health and will be back to the country soon. According to The Vanguard reporters, the governor spoke exclusively them while receiving three governors, who visited him in London, United Kingdom where he is recovering after an illness. The delegation which include the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State; Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State and Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, separately attested to Chime’s state of well being in telephone interviews with Vanguard . Abducted Mother of Bayelsa Speaker Regains Freedom

The kidnapped 78- year-old mother of the Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr. Kombowei Benson   has regained her freedom from her abductors. According to a Vanguard reliable source, Madam Betinah Okunwa Benson was freed at about 10pm last night after eight days in custody of the kidnappers. It was not clear at press time if the N40million Naira ransom demanded by her abductors was paid by the Speaker to secure his mother’s freedom or not, the details of her release remains sketchy. The spokesman to the speaker Mr. Kariamo Preye confirmed her release but denied the payment of ransom. He further said on telephone that the woman was handed over to the members of her family by the officials of Sagbama Local Government Council hale and hearty. One cannot but imagine if kidnapping has become the most lucrative business in Nigeria.

Sugarcane Seller Stab Customer To Death

What would have been another major communal conflict was Wednesday averted in Makurdi the Benue state capital, after a sugarcane seller allegedly stabbed his customer,19 year old Umaru Abdulrahaman, to death following an argument. The incident according to Vanguard eyewitness took place Wednesday morning at about 10 am in the Wadata area of Makurdi of town. According to the witness, the deceased who until his death lived at number20 Kano street, Wadata had engaged the sugarcane seller in an argument after purchasing a stick of sugarcane from him over the supposed balance the seller was to give the murdered buyer. All they heard was a sudden laud scream and the young man fell to the ground.  When the witness and other people rushed to the scene they saw blood gushing from chest of the deceased where he was stabbed and they discovered that the young man was dead cold while his attacker immediately fled the scene of the incident leaving his victim in his own pool...

Ritual Killing In Anambra

The popular Upper Iweka area of Onitsha Anambra state was in total confusion yesterday as a result of the murder of a lunatic woman by people suspected to be ritual killers and allegedly snatched her son of five years of age.  However there is a conflicting report on the actual cause of death. While the Police in Onitsha are saying that the lunatic was not killed by ritualist, other sources are saying that the suspected ritualist accosted her and forcefully took her son from her. She was killed by the suspected ritual killers because she resisted their move.  The death of the woman was confirmed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Onitsha Central Police Station Mr. Abdul Yusuf who said that no part of the woman’s body is missing and that there has been no report of a missing boy by anybody or family member of the woman.
