Fire Incident Reported at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos

There was an electrical fire incident on Thursday morning at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos as reported by source.  According to an eyewitness, the fire emanated from some cables melted under heat, as a result of some welders working at the extension of ‘D’ Wing of the international airport. Power supply was swiftly cut off by airport officials to the arrival and departure terminals, in order to forestall any unforeseen development and isolated the scene of the spark. The fire fighters deployed in the affected area were able to put the situation under control. However, power supply was restored to the airport terminal within a few minutes. Flight operations were not affected while the incident lasted.

Collapsed Lagos Building Kills two sisters, injures mother

Collapsed building Tragedy struck in yesterday in Lagos when the two storey building at M20 Jakande Low Cost Housing Estate Isolo collapsed killing two sisters and injuring their mother. The two sister are identified as Bukky and Toyin Coker both were graduates of the University of Lagos, while their mother was identified as Iya Coker.  One of the survivors living on the ground floor of the building identified as Ahmadu Omoniyi informed Mrs. Coker of the impending calamity at about 11:45pm on Tuesday night when he heard cracking sounds from the building. The building eventually collapsed at about 12:05 am on Wednesday.

About 34 million Nigerians defecate in the open

According to a report by Friday Olokor in The Punch, The United Nations ranked Nigeria among the top five countries in the world with the largest number of citizens defecating in the open on Monday in Abuja. The recent report by The UN revealed that 34 million Nigerians defecate in the public. Going around Lagos you cannot help but agree to this unhealthy practice, however the number is alarming.

Ban On DANA Air Lifted

The federal government yesterday cleared Dana Airline to resume operations. This is coming ninety eight days after the airline plane crash that killed about153 persons in Lagos. According to the statement made by Mr. Joe Obi the Special Adviser (Media) to the minister of aviation, the government restored the operating license of Dana Airline as it was satisfied with the air worthiness of the airline after conducting a rigorous technical, operational and financial audit of the airline. This has generated a mixed reaction among concerned Nigerians. Some believe it is not yet time to lift the suspension, questioning the rationale behind the lifting of the ban on the airline, especially as most of the families of the people involved in the plan crash are yet to be compensated.
