Tragedy has struck again in Nigeria. Chinua Achebe, one of Africa’s and the world’s most celebrated writers and author of the classic novel Things Fall Apart, is dead.
According to SaharaReporters, Achebe, who was the David and Mariana Fisher Professor of Literature at Brown University, died last night Thursday 21st March 2013, in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Professor Achebe had been sick for some time.
The prolific writer was 82 years, having been born on November 16, 1930. He has been in and out of the hospital in recent days.
Chinua Achebe was made popular for his classical novel “Things fall Apart”. His last book, There Was A Country: A Personal History of Biafra, is still a best seller.
