Nigeria: Bus Crash Kills 14
About fourteen people were killed and four others seriously
injured today, Wednesday January 16, 2013, when their bus crashed into a truck
and caught fire in Yobe State, northern Nigeria, a road safety official said.
As reported by thenews.com, the accident
happened near the town of Potiskum, capital of Yobe state.
"At around 6:30 am (0530
GMT) today a commuter bus which was carrying 18 passengers crashed into an
abandoned truck in the middle of the road that had lost control and fell on its
side overnight," Usman Masari head of the state Federal Road Safety
Commission, told AFP.
He added that "The bus
caught up in flames, resulting in the death(s) of 14 passengers while four
others sustained serious injuries,"
The bad roads in Nigeria have made
the country one of the countries with the worst road accident records in
Africa.
