Abducted Mother of Bayelsa Speaker Regains Freedom

The kidnapped 78- year-old mother of the Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr. Kombowei Benson  has regained her freedom from her abductors.

According to a Vanguard reliable source, Madam Betinah Okunwa Benson was freed at about 10pm last night after eight days in custody of the kidnappers.

It was not clear at press time if the N40million Naira ransom demanded by her abductors was paid by the Speaker to secure his mother’s freedom or not, the details of her release remains sketchy.

The spokesman to the speaker Mr. Kariamo Preye confirmed her release but denied the payment of ransom. He further said on telephone that the woman was handed over to the members of her family by the officials of Sagbama Local Government Council hale and hearty.

One cannot but imagine if kidnapping has become the most lucrative business in Nigeria.
