Nigeria: Gombe Assembly Member kidnapped

The House Committee Chairman on Finance of the Gombe state House of Assembly was kidnapped in Nigeria by unidentified gunmen yesterday the 30 th of December 2012. According a report by his brother Hamza on BBC Hausa, Alhaji Jalo Ahmed Ganga was abducted at about 5am near his home at Danaje Quarters by some men who came on motorcycles on his way to the mosque for the Muslims early Morning Prayer. He further said that three men on two motorcycles stopped and forced Alhaji Jalo to mount on one of the motorcycles at gunpoint while he was walking to the mosque. The Gombe state Commissioner of Police confirmed the kidnap as quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The Police Chief further said that the kidnappers abandoned their motorbike with no plate number. He however assured the public that the Police Command will do everything possible within its power to effect the release of the lawmaker. Fire Outbreak:Fire At Lagos Deputy Governor's House

The official quarters of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire was saved from what would have been a major fire disaster in Lagos State on Sunday by people NEMA, Lagos State Fire Service and people who were in and around the premises. The fire was said to have been caused by an electric spark from the room of the Special Assistant to the deputy governor on media Mr. Tunde Abatan. According to ThISDAY, there were no casualties recorded during the fire out break that occurred at about 1:30pm on the fateful day. The Information Officer of the South-West Zone of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed that the fire incident was caused by an electric fault when contacted.

Obasanjo’s Mansion Gutted By Fire

The multi- million naira hilltop residence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was gutted by fire on Thursday in Abeokuta the capital of Ogun State Nigeria. The fire incident took place about 48 hours after some part of the popular Jankara Market in Lagos state was razed down by fire resulting from fire crackers popularly known as Knockout or Banger in Nigeria. Obasanjo, who was not around during the fire outbreak, came to assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire shortly after the fire incident. He told reporters that it was just part of his secretary’s office that was burnt by the fire.  The former president showed no sign of distress. He in his usual jovial way, started singing in Yoruba that "Ile Obasanjo to jo, ewa lo bu kun. Nigeria: N8 Million Ransom Paid to Effect The Release of Nkiru Sylvanus - Police

The family of the kidnapped Nollywood actress and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Miss Nkiru Sylvanus paid a ransom of N8 Million to the kidnappers to effect her release, according to the Imo State Commissioner of Police Baba Adisa Bolanta. The Police commissioner said that this is against the instruction and order of the Police. The Police Commissioner while speaking with journalists at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri, disclosed that the police foiled the first attempt by the family to pay N7 million as ransom to the kidnappers. They recovered the money as the abductors took to their heels when they saw the police. The said N7 million was returned to the family.  The commissioner further said that after the money was returned, the family defied the police directive and went ahead to pay N8 million to the kidnappers for Nkiru Sylvanus was released. Suicide Bombing: Airtel and MTN Office Attacked

Kano city the capital of Kano State in the northern part of Nigeria experienced a black Saturday as twin suicide bombing attacks were carried out in the state. Both Airtel and MTN mast and office respectively were attacked in the bombing by suicide bombers. The suicide bomber driving the bomb- rigged car hit the MTN office at Post Office Road Kano at approximately 30 minutes after the attack on Airtel office in the State.   According to sources as at the time of this report, the number of casualties was four persons. Some members of staff and security personnel were still in the office when the building was attacked by the suicide bomber. According to security source, the number of casualties cannot be disclosed as at the time of filling this report because investigation is still on. 

25 Years Old Man, Imprisoned For Setting Father’s House Ablaze

Trust Olitan a 25 years old man has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for setting his father’s house ablaze by a Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Benin on Thursday. The convict was sentenced without an option of fine. Olitan who pleaded guilty on the one count charge was convicted for setting on fire, his father’s house, located at No. 6 Ore-Oghene Str., in Benin on December 14. It was heard by the court that on that fateful day, Olitan set ablaze a rubber slippers, then sprayed Kerosene in and around the house and threw the burning slippers into it. He watched the house go up in flames. According to the account of The Prosecutor, SP. Samuel Ogah, in the court, the convict had asked and failed to get his father, Mr Sunday Olitan, to part with N1,500 which he had demanded from him. He also said that the convict beat up his father before setting the house on fire.
