AFCON 2013: Nigeria 1 Vs 0 Burkina
The super eagles of Nigeria claimed
their third Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday night, after a 1-0 victory
over Burkina Faso in the AFCON 2013 final played at Soccer City in Johannesburg
South Africa.
One goal from Sunday Mba five
minutes before half time was enough to give the super eagles of Nigeria the
AFCON 2013 trophy after 19 years of winning the second title. It was a deserved
victory for the Super Eagles who made most of the running in the game.
The game was played in front of about
85,000 fans in Johannesburg, bringing to an end an entertaining three weeks of
football.
Emmanuel Emenike who was the eagles
leading scorer, failed to recover from a hamstring injury, was replaced by Ike
Uche who was also substitute by Ahmed Musa in the second half.
Nigeria was able to hold on for what
is a famous win in a tournament in which they entered to low expectations.
Stephen Keshi made history, being
the second Nigerian coach to win the African Cup of Nations as a player and as
a coach. Christian Chukwu achieved this fit in 1994 with Clemence Westerhof when the super eagles became African champions for the second time.
