The case of Ebola disease recorded in a hospital located in Obalende Lagos Nigeria, has awakened the awareness of this deadly disease in Nigeria. Everybody is scared to death whenever and wherever "EBOLA" is mentioned in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
The news that the doctor who handled the Ebola patient has tested positive to the Ebola virus has increased the fear of the disease in Lagos State Nigeria.
Yet people are not well informed about the disease. Most people don't know how the disease is contacted or how to avoid being infected. Some believe that you can be infected through any form of body fluid. Others believe the disease is airborne.
What is Ebola
Ebola is a diseases caused by a virus and was first discovered in Ebola river in Congo in 1976, where it got its name Ebola.
How Is Ebola Disease Spread
Ebola Virus can be spread through
- Direct contact with blood, body fluid and tissues of infected person.
- Contact with infected animals, possibly by eating infected animals
- Direct contact with needles and other infected objects
Ebola virus disease symptoms are similar to those of malaria. You strictly advised to report to a doctor if you have any of the symptoms below as early treatment can save victim.
- Fever, headache, joint and muscle pains
- Vomiting and severe diarrhea
- Internal and external bleeding
